My friend Peter Jaworski and his parents are in trouble with the municipality of Clarington for hosting the Liberty Summer Seminar on their rural property (full disclosure: I was invited to speak last year at the LSS – the video of my talk is available here). Their story has gathered a lot of media attention, including this front-page story in the National Post.
Frankly I find it outrageous that a family cannot decide, once a year, to invite friends and acquaintances to their home, whip up some delicious home-made food, put up a tent and have a chat about ideas they’re interested in, without their local government trying to fine them $50,000 for running an unregistered conference centre. It used to be that when we said this was a free country, we meant it.
I support Peter and his parents in their current dispute against their municipal government. I hope you will too. You can contribute to their legal defence fund here.
